day 3 melbourne – dinner at hutong dumpling bar …

we (tempting palates) had finished lunch at hofbrauhaus and hutong was practically next door.  we enquired about a booking and was told that there was a 9pm spot available.  we hadn’t yet made any plans for dinner the next night.  knowing that we were going to have a massive degustation meal, earlier in the day, for lunch (movida), a light meal was called for and as late as possible.  we took the 9pm booking.

four out of the five of us shared dishes and we ordered >> crispy fragrant duck, eggplant in claypot in szechuan chilli sauce, boiled pork dumplings and pan fried shredded beef.

i couldn’t fault the food but i wish that i could say we had an enjoyable experience.  despite the 9pm booking (made the day before) our table wasn’t ready when we arrived.  the kitchen closed at 9.30pm – which we were told about but we were assured that as long as we ordered as soon as we got there we could stay as long as necessary.  the service staff rushed us into finishing the meal quickly.  no time for dessert.  hmmm … this dinner passed in the blink of an eye …

hutong dumpling bar is located on 14-16 market lane and is open sunday – thursday 11.30am–3pm, 5.30pm–10.30pm, friday & saturday 11.30am–3pm, 5.30pm–11.30pm.
